HAUNTED HISTORY TOUR IN SELMA, ALABAMA, OCTOBER 17-18

The Selma-Dallas County Tourism & Convention Bureau announces a new event for fall – Haunted History Tours.

Scheduled for October 17-18, this event features Old Cahawba Archaeological Park and two venues in Selma’s spectacular historic district.

On October 17 this spirited event begins with an evening of CSI – Cahawba Spirit Investigation - a rare opportunity to experience Alabama’s most famous ghost town at night. Vans will shuttle participants to Cahawba’s most haunted locations where Alabama Historical Commission staff will share documented historical accounts of sightings. Then real life paranormal investigators - members of Central Alabama Paranormal Investigations - will join the group, demonstrate “ghost hunting” equipment, and conduct an “investigation.” Six 90 minute “investigation” tours will be offered with the first starting at 6:30 pm and the last at 9:00 pm. Seating is limited for this exclusive night-time event so advance reservations are absolutely necessary. Linda Derry, site director at Old Cahawba, who is also offering a daylight tour of this ghost town on Saturday morning, October 18th, states “at Cahawba, you don’t have to believe in ghosts to hear the past speaking to you. The relic landscape at this location contains many intriguing messages left behind by long dead inhabitants.”
“This spirited adventure continues on Saturday evening” says Candace Johnson, Director of the Tourism & Convention Bureau. “Two centuries of Selma’s history will come back to haunt you during a living history tour of Old Live Oak Cemetery.” From 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm, some of Selma’s strong willed spirits will “appear” near their graves to tell you their story.

Meanwhile, at magnificent antebellum Sturdivant Hall, the ghost of the “Ruined Banker”, will tell his own sad tale - a story made famous by Kathryn Tucker Windham in her book “13 Alabama Ghosts and Jeffrey.” Other ghost tales will be told on the grounds of the mansion from 4:00 pm to 7:00pm. Don’t be surprised if you catch glimpses of other members of the banker’s ghostly family lurking in the shadows.

Your travel time between these two haunted Selma locations will be a ghostly adventure also. A specially prepared self-guided driving tour through Selma’s historic district will provide curb-side views of other historic homes with resident ghosts.

Tickets to each event are $15. - ages 12 and up only, please. Don’t forget to bring your camera and a flashlight.

This year, a Haunted History Tour getaway package will be offered to guests in partnership with the St. James Hotel – the south’s only remaining antebellum riverfront hotel, and is rumored to be haunted. The package for two includes overnight accommodations October 17 and 18, admission to Cahawba Spirit Investigation and Selma’s Haunted History Tour for only $225.00 plus tax.

Contact the Selma-Dallas County Tourism and Convention Center for more information and to order tickets – advanced tickets are recommended. Call (334) 875-7241 or 1-800-45-SELMA.
